UPDATE 5/31/2023:
Lesson Program Announcement 2023
Hello Dolphin families!
I am excited to announce that the lesson program plan is official!
There is quite a bit of information for me to relay, so I will try to break it up the best I can. If there are any additional questions/comments/concerns, again, please let me know. I would also like to mention that families will need to fill out the appropriate form for the lessons they are interested in for their child(ren), even if you have emailed me about your interest before, thank you!
General
The group lessons program will start June 5th, while the individual lessons program will start June 19th when the swim and dive teams switch to morning practices in order to best accommodate instructor schedules and pool availability. Many of the instructors are still in school until that time, and I want to ensure that they are able to finish their school years, extracurriculars, work, and practices - adding lessons after the school year. The instructors are eager to help each swimmer improve their ability and comfort in the water, but they have a lot on their plates; please try to be flexible with them throughout the season; they can't wait to work with the Dolphin families!
Group Lessons
Group lessons will be taught by Edward Ice again this summer! He has done a phenomenal job the last few seasons and is ready to go again! The group lessons will be split into two sessions: 10:00-10:30 AM and 10:30-11:00 AM. Each week of group lessons is $45/swimmer. The earlier session will be oriented more towards beginners, while the second group will be more intermediate/advanced. There are no requirements as to which you sign up for, and if you must be in one over the other due to scheduling, that is fine, but if you have the ability to separate based on those standards, please do so we can try to keep similar ability levels together. Additionally, your child must be willing to get in the water; it is too difficult in a short group lesson to not be in the water from the start - if your swimmer is not comfortable getting in yet, we would suggest private lessons to start building that comfort in a more conducive environment for that.
The lessons will take place in the trap pool Monday-Thursday with a weather makeup day on Friday. Lessons run from the week of June 5th to the week of July 24th, with the only exception being the week of June 19th, where there will be no group lessons. If a lesson has to be canceled by the instructor Monday-Thursday, then the Friday makeup will be used, but Friday is not able to be used as makeup for participants unable to make it during the week. If the pool closes, try to check the website or call the office as the first check to know whether to go or not, but you can also reach out to me or Edward.
The registration will work the same as last season via signup genius. The signup genius will be posted on the website with each week listed, and you may sign up there. No need to confirm with me or Edward; the signup genius will serve as confirmation/reservation in that week's group lesson. We will cap each lesson at 6 swimmers to make the lesson interactive, fun, and without too many swimmers so each gets plenty of individual instruction. If the lessons fill up quickly, we may add additional sessions to accommodate interest, so we will monitor that and adjust as necessary!
Private Lessons
The price of the private lessons will depend on the instructor's experience level and will be 30 minutes at any time within operating pool hours that work for both your family and your instructor. This season we will also allow instructors to schedule lessons prior to opening in the mornings, we want to make sure we are making it possible for the instructors to teach lessons while still making sure they are able to prioritize their regular work schedules, so we are hoping by adding this option the two will not be conflicts this season.
The sign-up will work very similarly to last year, as it seemed to work well. The Google form will work as the signup; you will fill it out for your child(ren) - if you have multiple swimmers, please complete a separate one for each. Please stay tuned for the private lesson form as the instructor list is still being finalized. The instructor bios will be attached to the Google form. Once you have filled out the form with your info and instructor preference, I will match you with an instructor; it is not always the instructor whom you may have listed - typically due to scheduling conflicts. Please be flexible, but also, if there are issues of any kind, just let me know, and I will work with you! Once you are paired with an instructor, I will give you their contact info in order to reach out and schedule. From there, I do not need to be alerted about how often lessons occur, when, or confirm anything - that is up to the instructors. I am there if any issues/questions/concerns come up of any kind throughout the season, but I do not need to be involved in scheduling after you are paired!
That is all the information I have to print at the moment; again, if there are any follow-up questions or information I missed, please don't hesitate to contact me!
Thank you so much,
Helen
